Is more MP better in a digital camera or more optical zoom?

I am debating over what digital camera to invest in. One of the 2 I’m considering has 10 MP with 3X optical zoom while the other has 7.1 MP with 6X optical zoom. I cannot find a higher combination of the 2 within my price range. So which is better?

    Which camera do you guys think is better for a 16/17 year old girl? An A730 Pink 7.0 MP 3X Zoom Digital Camera or an Samsung S860 Pink 8.1 MP 3X Zoom Digtal Camera. Or would u recommend something better.
