I want to get a new digital camera. The main feature I want is a strong zoom. I see them with x7 but would like more than that. What cameras do you suggest I look for. I take wild life shots and sometimes it is 4 or 5 hundred yards to the elk or moose I am trying to photograph. I need something as powerful as it can be in a not to big of camera as I pack in and hike getting to these places. Thanks for any advice you may have.

I am looking to buy a certain camera that boasts both optical and digital zoom. I am not interested in the digital zoom. Do these cameras that have both types of zoom options use them both at the same time? For example, if I want a 2X optical zoom shot, will the digital zoom be included or can I choose to use just the optical? None of the cameras I look at explain this.
I’m looking to finally get a digital camera mainly for taking pictures of my daughter but also whatever else we encounter, indoors or outdoors. So with that in mind action shots might come into play.
I’ve read that the optical zoom is more important than the digital zoom but I was just wondering what range should I be looking for? Would a 3 or 4X be suitable or would a larger range be needed? I’m not a professional photographer by any means but I just want to make sure my picture quality is good. That’s really the most important thing to me. Please help! Give me any advice you can, brands, cameras, what to look for, anything to help me in buying a good camera. Also I don’t care at all about the "extra features" that most people never use, I just want good quality pictures! Also not really looking to do more than 8×10 prints either. Thanks.
