I am looking to buy a long zoom digital camera, point and shoot and I am looking at the Sony…?

…DSC H9. Any comments
I need anti-shake, clear zooms, not too heavy. We love our birds in the back yard and I want pictures. My 4X zoom doesn’t do it and I want to be able to take action shots of my grandchildren.

I’m not familiar with that camera but the specs look good as long as you can live wit a unit that uses memory stick cards instead of SD cards. In that price range you might also want to look at the Canon S5 IS.

I had a long zoom Sony with anti shake and I was disappointed so I returned it. I needed something to handhold in low light and I learned even the anti shake isnt enough for that.
I would recommend if you are going to shoot at long zooms use a tripod or your photos may be blurred.

The DSC-H9 is an old design, 2 generations out of date. If you are sticking with Sony then the current model would be the DSC-HX1. Thing is, the HX1 is the best performer in it’s class – but that class is low-light Super-Zoom Bridge cameras. Frankly if you are shooting in normal light it’ll be out-performed by the Canon SX20IS http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Cameras/Digital_Camera/PowerShot/PowerShot_SX20_IS/index.asp

Sony H9 is an oled model. I would suggest Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H20/B 10.1 MP with 10x Optical Zoom and Super Steady Shot Image Stabilization. It is not too big, good sharp & clear pictures and also take HD video.

or another good brand and model that I would recommend is Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 12.1MP with 18x POWER Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.7 inch LCD. Excellent picture quality.
